How do I get a pet with PawCover protection?
If you’ve found the perfect match, the first step is to request to reserve them through the platform.
Start the conversation: Contact the seller using chat and click "Ask to reserve" button on the advert or within your chat.
Introduce yourself: If you haven’t already, you’ll be asked to fill out a short Buyer Profile. This is your chance to show the breeder why you can provide a loving, suitable home.
Confirm in chat: Once you submit the request, a confirmation will appear in your chat thread.
After submitting your request, the seller will be notified of your interest in purchasing their pet. When the seller accepts your request, you'll receive a notification in the chat and by email that it’s time to complete the payment (see next section) and secure your pet!
Note: Simply asking to reserve a pet does not guarantee the match. Breeders care deeply about where their pets go and may review multiple profiles to find the right fit. Once they accept your request and you complete your payment, your pet is officially secured with PawCover protection.
What does it mean if a seller invites me to make a payment?
In many cases, a breeder may invite you to complete a payment to reserve your pet after you’ve spent some time chatting and met the pet. If they choose you, you’ll receive a notification via email and in your chat thread for a payment to reserve your pet. You can then proceed to secure your pet by following the payment steps below.
How do I complete the payment once I am asked to pay?
Once your request has been accepted or the seller has sent a request directly to you, it's time to complete your payment to secure your new best friend! You will choose to pay the full amount up front or only the deposit. Any deposit amount set by the seller will be paid out to them immediately. The remaining balance is held safely by Pets4Homes until you confirm the collection of your new pet.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make the payment:
- Open the Pets4Homes chat thread between you and the seller.
- In the chat window, click "I'm ready to purchase my pet" to be redirected to the payment page.
- Choose your payment option.
- Deposit first, balance later: with this payment option, you pay your deposit and Pet Payment fee to reserve your pet. The deposit will be immediately transferred to the seller, confirming your reservation. You pay the remaining balance before pick-up. If you cancel before paying the balance, the deposit may not be refundable, depending on the seller’s policy. Read more on cancellations here.
- Full payment: with this payment option, you pay the entire sum upfront. The deposit is transferred to the seller immediately, confirming your reservation. We will keep the remaining balance safely in escrow until you confirm the collection of your new pet. Read more on cancellations here.
- Choose your payment method and complete the payment.
- Once the payment is completed, you will receive a receipt via email and your chat thread with the seller will be updated to reflect the new status that your payment has been made.
Afterwards, you need to confirm collection when you are collecting your pet (see next section) to release the remaining balance to the seller and fully complete the purchase of your new pet!
What if I forget to pay the remaining balance?
You’ll receive reminders, but if the balance isn’t paid on time, your reservation may be cancelled.
Should I view the pet when making a payment?
We always recommend you view the pet (and mum when looking for a puppy or kitten) at least once before collection so that you can be sure it's a good match, that everything is in order, and check the paper work for health tests, checks, microchipping etc. You can make your payment before, during, or after a viewing.

Confirming collection and activating your 6 month health guarantee
To enable the 6 month health guarantee included in PawCover, you release the remaining balance to the seller while collecting your pet in-person - not before. Please ensure that you click "confirm collection" before leaving the seller's home so they can see that you have completed the sale. When collecting your pet, you should:
- Open the Pets4Homes chat thread between you and the seller.
- Click the "Confirm collection" button.
That’s it! The seller will receive the remaining balance, and you can focus on welcoming your new pet to their new home!
