Using AI in your advert: photos and descriptions

Real photos help buyers fall in love with the pet they'll actually take home. Here's how AI fits into your advert, and where it doesn't.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Can I use AI on my advert photos?

No. You should not use AI tools to change or create your advert photos. That includes swapping or adding backgrounds, replacing objects (for example, swapping a basket with a cushion), smoothing coats, changing colours, or generating images of your pet. We know many of our best breeders will edit photos because you're proud of your pets and want them to look their best. But buyers spot AI changes quickly, and it makes them trust the advert less. It also makes it harder for us to tell real photos from fake ones, which matters for everyone's safety on Pets4Homes.

Note: An imperfect real photo always does more for your advert than a perfect made-up one. You don't need a professional photographer.

Which photo edits are fine

Basic edits that don't change what's in the photo are absolutely fine:

  • Cropping
  • Straightening or rotating
  • Adjusting brightness and contrast with your phone's standard tools
  • Your phone camera's normal automatic lighting
Tip: Take photos in daylight near a window, at your pet's eye level, and show them with their mother where possible. Clear and natural beats polished.

Using AI for your advert description

AI can be a helpful second pair of eyes for your words. Write your description yourself first, then you can ask a tool like ChatGPT to:

  • Check your spelling and grammar
  • Spot details you might have missed, like health checks or what's included
  • Suggest questions buyers often ask

We don't recommend letting AI write the whole description. Generic text makes adverts look the same, and buyers want to hear about your pets in your own words.

What happens if my photos look AI-altered

If our team thinks photos in your advert have been changed with AI, we may place the advert on hold for review. You'll receive an email explaining why. Replacing the photos with real, unedited ones is usually all it takes to get your advert back up and running. For our other advert rules, see Why has my advert been blocked? and our full terms.
